I am just at the tail end of a wonderful long weekend. I got the chance to celebrate mother's day twice and today is my birthday! I celebrated Mother's Day with my mom on Saturday by going indoor rock climbing.
(How wonderful to be a mom on Mother's Day!)
On Sunday - my very first Mother's Day I was surprised with a trip to this great Japanese Bookstore in San Francisco with stacks and stacks of adorable Japanese knit and crochet books. Somehow, I was able to decide on one - just one, to bring home.
Yup, just one. That's serious will power on my part; what I really wanted to do was pull up a chair right there in the craft aisle and go through each and every one of the probably 150+ books they had - and that's just the knit and crochet books. I didn't even let myself get pulled into sewing books or we would have never left.
Today, Monday, is my birthday! I took the day off of work and had a whole list of great I-have-a-whole-day-all-to-myself things to do. Of course, I only got about half of them done. Julia's Birthday Schedule of Events included several wonderful things including going to one of my favorite cafes I never get to visit anymore to sit and sip and knit a little bit (hehe that was fun to type)
I didn't get to the cafe but I did get to have l two wonderful surprises. 1- when I arrived for my birthday mani-pedi appt I was told it was already paid for. That "a lady" had come by on Saturday and taken care of it. Yup, my mom stopped by after our rock climbing expedition and paid for me. It's like - well, have you even been in line to pay to bridge toll and when you finally get to the booth you find out that the car in front of you already paid for you?

me neither.
but I'm assuming it feels a lot like that.
Surprise number two: the hubby came home from work early and took me to
....mmmmmmm
A really good friend of mine is due with her first baby (a little girl) this summer and I just couldn't resist making a little something.
And then a little something turned into three little somethings.
I can't wait until she gets here. I already have visions of tiny crocheted dressed dancing in my head. Happy Mother's Day to all of my new mom's and mothers-to-be!

see that loosy, goosy stitching on the right side? That's what happens when you cast on unevenly and occasionally too loosely. Clearly that part will be the back of the beret.
ooo - and this is going to be a market bag with it's own little pocket it can be tucked into.

So, I took a little time to regroup, to think about the blog and where I want it to go, it's purpose.....all that good stuff. There were even flowcharts involved.
What do I want? I want to meet other crafty people. I'll be a fiber arts crafting, whirlwind of a woman this summer so I can have my etsy shop stocked and ready to roll by fall, so stay tuned for that little bit of joy; but really I just want to meet other like-minded folks.
I want to share - I have more awesome patterns that I'll even have time for - and I keep finding more.
I want to learn - how do you find/make time for your craft?
I want to discover - where do you get your inspiration from?
Sure, there are other, face-to-face venues for meeting knitters and crocheters here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but mid-week, mid-day stitch and bitch sessions don't really work for a mom of an eight-month old, with a full time job & a husband that I really do like and want to spend time with. As it is, most of my free time for the hook and needle is in carpool, on the bus, or late at night. Blog posts, on the other hand, can be typed up a few words at a time and proofed during nap times; comments can be reviewed while sauces simmer and sweet potato fries bake.
So come on in - and stay awhile. I'll let you know when the fries are ready.
