Busy bee

I've been busy. I've grabbed 15 minutes on the bus to and from work, a few minutes during nap time and, I'll admit it, as I type there are dishes that need to be washed. Oh well, it seems like there's always something that needs to be cleaned or washed or swept or something....

This is from a pattern in Get your Crochet On! hip Hats and Cool Caps.  It's called  "Bunny." 

   

One thing I really liked about this pattern (and many of the patterns in her books), is the addition of elastic.  I might have put the elastic in a little too tightly - but practice makes perfect and it's a fun way to put my hair up.

These two hats started out as patterns from the book I bought during my Mother's Day weekend. Then I made a few tweaks and changes, a different brim on one, and a change in the stitch pattern in the other.....and voila:

Tiny breakfast

...And other lies I tell myself about being on a plane with a 9-month old.

This trip was completely different from any I've ever taken before.  It used to be that a cross-country flight was an opportunity to catch up on reading - both gossip magazines and 'serious' books alike. I could crochet or knit while watching whatever romantic comedy was showing; to be honest, I'm not sure if I'd know who Hugh Grant is where it not for the in-flight movie. All-in-all the flyng BC (Before Child) was a bit of forced (albeit cramped) relaxation.

But a flight with a 9-month old, even an amazingly well-mannered, and happy one, leaves barely enough time for a bathroom break let alone "craft time." The best I was able to do was play Mahjong on the little seat monitor in front of me, with my one free hand, during his occasional naps.

Am I complaining? of course not. The little guy was a dream on the plane - and we're talking about confined space with a baby who generally wants nothing more than to crawl around and explore - so a trek from San Francisco to New York is no small feat.

 Just a quick note of hello from New York.

My son and i have left dad at home and made our way to New York to visit my sister who is an amazing artist. And I must say, the little guy is quite the traveller - he was wonderful on the plane and patient on the drive from the airport.

But he is NOT a fan on the subway...at least not the arrival of the subway; lots of noise.

More importantly - We'll be checking out a few yarn shops and the amazing Japanese bookstore Kinokuniya - the NY one is supposed to be HUGE!!!
